This year Made Great in Grimsby (MGIG) invested in its own identifiable booth within the Great Britain and Northern Ireland stand at Seafood Expo Global 2024.
Firstly, it’s always mind-blowing how many businesses from Grimsby and the Humber region attend the show. The larger businesses processing fish from all over the world in our region have their own independent stands, some within the confines of even more significant stands of their owners who originate from places like Japan, Canada, the USA, Faroe, Iceland, and Norway.
Other smaller businesses used the MGIG booth and common areas within the Great Britain and Northern Ireland space to locate themselves, have meetings, take refreshments, and talk business with thousands of other seafood businesses from all over the globe, that descend on Barcelona for three days.
The key takeaways this year were without doubt the vast array of businesses from our region attending including, micro-businesses (fish merchants), the attention that was given to our booth, which told the story of the seafood industry scale we have, and the number of genuine enquiries we are now able to pass along to businesses within our cluster. We received enquiries for sourcing co-product, supplying whitefish species, interest in our Master Fishmonger Scheme, assistance with overseas exporting, interest in our Future Leaders training programme, and collaboration from other parts of the UK with MGIG and our cluster activities.
Barcelona SEG24 had something for everyone who attended and there was great comradery amongst the other businesses having booths on the stand and the organisers of the stand, DEFRA, the Department for Business and Trade, and the Seafish Industry Authority. All this coupled with great tapas restaurants and hotels to fit every budget. Viva Barcelona SEG24 !
