Felicity met other cluster industry leaders, regional Icelandic Consular and local MP's at a breakfast meeting hosted by Grimsby Fish Merchants Association at Associated British Ports offices in Grimsby.
Felicity heard from cluster Director, Simon Dwyer, about the processing and trade activities and the vital importance of fresh and frozen seafood trade into Grimsby. Of the £3.3bn of seafood imported into UK, Norway & Iceland combined accounted for approximately a fifth of trade.
Felicity, who has now visited Norway & Iceland, also listened about the challenges of the requirement for senders of seafood from these countries to provide Export Health Certificates next year - an imposition of the UK Government that will create friction at borders both ends and could lead to the deterioration of trade volumes. Simon Smith commented "We're grateful for Felicity to take the time to visit Grimsby and to fully understand the reliance we have on fish and seafood trade from both Iceland and Norway".
