On the eve of the second Seafood Grimsby & Humber Alliance 'Made Great In Grimsby, Teachers Encounter' programme, the Alliance launched a video promoting careers in Seafood.

The video tells a story to inspire teachers, career advisors, parents, and pupils of amazing and dynamic career opportunities in one of Europe's leading seafood clusters. Young people will be made aware of local careers with over 5,000 people directly employed and approximately 10,000 in the supply chain.
Hayley Gilham, Operational Manager Employability, Young People Support Services, who attended the Encounter said "I was overwhelmed with firstly, the scale of industry in Grimsby and secondly, the career opportunities. Seafood is a global business and Grimsby is at the heart of giving pupils fabulous careers in technical, engineering, global buying, micro-biology, sustainability planning and innovating with new products. It's endless with an opportunity to suit all aspirations."
Schools Ambassador Joanne Woodhouse organised the day including presentations and tours to businesses along with some homework for attendees to buy seafood from Premier Seafoods in Riby Street and later prepare a seafood meal at home.
The Fishmongers' Company, who sit on the Seafood Grimsby & Humber Alliance board is behind this initiative. Eleanor Adamson, Fisheries Programme Manager at Fishmongers’ commented "Our organisation has a focus on Education and Careers across the seafood sector and fisheries world, so we're absolutely delighted to see the launch of this video to encourage careers in the region." Eleanor went on to say "Fishmongers' Company fund a ‘Fish in Schools Hero’ programme that enables over 30,000 students in 900 schools across the country to cook and taste a variety of seafood products, and the deeper school engagement that the SGHA delivers in the heart of the seafood processing sector in Grimsby is really welcome. Raising awareness of careers and healthy eating is a key priority for us."
