Made Great in Grimsby welcome representatives from the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute

September 04, 2024

This week Made Great in Grimsby met up with Alexa Tonkovich and Alicia Parker from Lotus UK, representing the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) in the UK. Alexa and Alicia visited several Grimsby Seafood businesses whilst in the area, to introduce themselves and learn more about the UK’s prominent seafood cluster.

ASMI is a public-private partnership between the State of Alaska and the Alaska seafood industry established to foster the economic development of a renewable natural resource. ASMI plays a key role in the positioning of Alaska’s seafood industry as a competitive market-driven food production industry.

ASMI’s work to boost the value of Alaska’s seafood product portfolio is accomplished through a variety of tactics, including partnerships with retail grocers, foodservice distributors, restaurant chains, foodservice operators, universities, culinary schools, and the media. ASMI conducts consumer campaigns, public relations, and advertising activities, and aligns with industry efforts for maximum effectiveness. ASMI also functions as a global brand manager of the Alaska Seafood family of brands.

They were met by   'Made in Great Grimsby' Project Delivery Manager, Julie Waites, who represents the seafood cluster across Grimsby and the Humber with over 70 processing businesses serving all the major UK retailers and the majority of food service outlets in the UK with fresh and frozen seafood. The meeting consisted of a presentation about the Grimsby and Humber Seafood cluster, and a discussion about future collaboration around the different projects and initiatives which support the cluster.

Made Great in Grimsby look forward to future collaboration with ASMI.
