International Seafood Trade and Sustainability in the Curriculum with the David Ross Education Trust
October 14, 2024
To build on the work that is already underway with our Schools Ambassador, Joanne Woodhouse, and in addition to a virtual professionals days and careers in Geography which took place last year, the secondary Geography teachers from the David Ross Education Trust heard from Simon Dwyer, on behalf of the Seafood Grimsby and Humber Alliance, and Dr Andrew Couper from the University of Lincoln talk about international trade of seafood and sustainability in the seafood industry. This was part of their Subject Community Meeting which was held at Havelock Academy in Grimsby last week.
Continued Professional Development (CPD) for teachers in understanding the opportunities that link their teaching in the classroom to real world issues and business is key to helping young people understand the world they are about to embark on and the career opportunities they may wish to pursue.
International trade and sustainability are key topics in the David Ross Education Trust (DRET) Geography Trust Wide Curriculum and hearing from professionals who do this day in and day out gives their teachers the knowledge they need to bring this to life for young people in their lessons.
The day was lead by Chantal Mayo-Hollaway, Trust Wide Subject Lead for Geography.
