Grimsby Fish Merchants Association Attend Painting The Port of Grimsby Art Exhibition

August 19, 2024

Representatives of the Grimsby Fish Merchants Association were invited to a preview of Associated British Ports 'Painting of the Port Exhibition'.

Dale Mackie (pictured), resident artist of Associated British Ports, displayed over twenty of his paintings to an invited group at Associated British Ports Grimsby office.

Emma Lingard (pictured), Regional Corporate Communications Manager (Humber) said "For 30 years Dale has been painting and drawing images of Grimsby Dock so he was delighted when ABP offered him to be the first artist in residence. This wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for WE1 Heritage for allowing Dale to work from one of their studio spaces." Emma continued "With this came the promise of a new exhibition that showed the port of Grimsby from its early days of being the largest fishing port in the world to become a major hub for the offshore wind industry and one of the U.K.'s leading automotive ports"

Born and raised in Cleethorpes Dale loved art in school but it wasn't until 20 years later at the age of 36 when he enrolled on his first art course. For 10 years Dale was a resident artist at Grimsby's Gallery up until its closure.

With the continuing redevelopment of the ports Kasbah district as a creative space, Dale has been ABP's official resident artist of the docks for the last two years. He is currently working on pieces that will feature in an up and coming exhibition depicting the past present and future of the Port of Grimsby. This exhibition will be held at Café on the Docks, Grimsby port from 14th September for the port Heritage Open Day.
