October 29, 2024
Representatives of the Seafood Grimsby & Humber Alliance (SGHA) seafood processing cluster of over 5000 employees, joined over 350 attendees at the Global Seafood Alliance, Responsible Seafood conference in St Andrews, Scotland, this week.
SGHA and The Fishmongers' Company sponsored the session 'Seafood Needs Talent' that heard from speakers representing the Scottish seafood industry sharing lessons learnt with schools engagement, young talent and mentoring women in the Aquaculture sector. SGHA CEO, Simon Dwyer, and Future Seafood Leaders participant, Lauren Flett from Grimsby based Fastnet Fish, part of the J. Marr (Seafoods) Group headquartered in Hessle, completed the speaker lineup.
Simon spoke about the successful SGHA Future Seafood Leaders programme in collaboration with the University of Lincoln. The immersive programme has been delivered in Grimsby and Scotland's seafood processing sector since 2023 to over ninety employees. Lauren spoke about her experience of the programme, the impact on her career and her excitement to join the Future Seafood Leaders No 2 programme that recently started.
Lauren said "The programme has given me an insightful rounded knowledge of the seafood sector particularly, aquaculture. It's given me the confidence to suggest implementation of a new process in the business unit I work within Fastnet. My employer has been very receptive to me and my colleagues participation in the programme as well as being supportive of my involvement in Future Leaders two."
Simon Dwyer added "Congratulations to GSA and Seafood Scotland for hosting a great programme with global speakers talking about topics the seafood industry needs to hear more about. Nurturing future global seafood talent, like Lauren, will gain momentum and I'm sure will feature in many more global seafood conferences. At SGHA we're leading the way to future proof the next generation of leaders in the sector and we look forward to developing worldwide partnerships together with The University of Lincoln and Seafish Industry Authority.
